The Parents’ Jury calls for end to junk food involvement in junior sports

Parents angry as McDonald's begins junior football program.

In response to the launch of McDonald's Mac Pack program in Victoria, The Parents' Jury Manager Corrina Langelaan said:

"This kind of program has no place in sport. It creates an unwelcome connection between physicalactivity and junk food and simply builds the brand of the company in the minds of children.

"Parents already have to fight the daily battles with their kids, who believe the marketing hype of the food industry. Now parents are being further undermined through stealth marketing under the guise of community sporting events targeting children.

"AFL players are massive role models for kids and they should not be promoting fast food. Sports and sporting events should be about healthy living, not a showcase for junk food."
