School Sport
Many children enjoy the excitement and competitive nature of inter school sports. It is a great way for them to participate in vigorous physical activity, socialise with friends and meet children from other schools. Skills can be developed and children have the chance to excel in an area they love. However, the competitiveness of inter school sport does not appeal to all children, and some are much more comfortable participating in other types of physical activity.
After school and weekend sports programs offer an excellent opportunity for schools to offer a mixture of activities that cater to different abilities and interests, often beyond the reach of what the school is able to offer as part of the regular curriculum. The focus of after school programs should be on enjoyable activities and movement in many forms. They offer a safe environment for children to play and be active after school hours, and parents can be assured that they are well looked after and away from traffic.
