Physical Activity at School
Experiences at school play an important role in influencing the children's attitudes and behaviours when it comes to participating in organised sport and physical activity. Schools should provide an environment that supports regular participation in physical activity as evidence clearly suggests that active children are more likely to become active adults.
There are numerous opportunities within the school day for children to be active. Physical activity may be organised or incidental, group or solo, competitive or friendly. Schools can maximise the potential for participation in these activities with a little forethought, planning and the provision of sports equipment.
Walking or riding to and from school is also a great way to include physical activity in your school day. There are events across Australia designed to encourage this type of activity.
