School Nutrition Guidelines for Victoria

Victoria has seen the launch of the Victorian Healthy Eating Enterprise which is a community-based approach to health and wellbeing. It has established the new Victorian Healthy Eating Advisory Service (VHEAS) to provide healthy eating and nutrition advice to early childhood services, primary and secondary schools, hospitals and workplaces.

Nutrition Australia is leading the delivery of the VHEAS. The service which is funded by the State Government of Victoria and the Australian Government currently includes menu assessments, the provision of resources, support and phone line advice across early childhood services, primary and secondary schools. This is a crucial element in the establishment of health promoting environments in Victoria.

At present, the School Canteens and Other School Food Services Policy provides advice to schools. It applies to food services within the school environment, for example school events such as celebrations and sports days, vending machines and foods used in curriculum activities.
