Georgie

At our school, we get all the teachers and teachers' aids to bring in a baby photo and place them all up on a board, then charge $1 a guess. The person to have their picture guessed right wins a prize. The kids have a great time guessing what their teachers looked like in their previous lives.

Helen (WA)

We did a fun run at our school which raised an absolute packet and the kindy kids did a obstacle course instead of laps of the oval. We had parents versus kids, and the whole school got moving. It was great.

Burnside Primary School (SA)

Years ago many parents complained about chocolate drives, so we no longer hold confectionary fundraisers. Instead we hold a family movie day, which is easy to co-ordinate and your local cinema usually has packages.

We also have a very successful Fun-Run-A-Thon for which all students are encouraged to collect sponsors. We raise approx $5000 per year.

Imagination and creativity along with time and effort can raise money without relying on chocolates - the reward for the invested time and effort is the best prize.

Suggestions from the Schools Fundraising Survey

The following examples were provided by respondents to our schools-only fundraising survey in October 08.

  • We sold calico bags decorated by students at the school fete
  • Our school has a vegetable garden and we often sell off the fresh produce
  • We sell eggs from our farm
  • Our schools held a ‘Fathers Day Olympics'. There were 10 events for each Dad and child to participate in and this was run in conjunction with the Olympics 2008. Each event cost $1 entry fee. Prizes were awarded after the events, followed by a BBQ dinner
  • We raise extra money by hiring out some school facilities
  • We sell fruit, vegetables and plants from our school garden, as well as selling preserves from our kitchen
  • We hold a fun trivia night and also raise some extra money from car parking
  • Our school runs a family photo day where the families book a time and a professional photographer comes to the school to take family portraits.
  • We have had a sunscreen fundraiser and ‘out of uniform' days
  • We buy organic foods wholesale, package them and sell them at our Garden Market Stall once a fortnight
  • We have a mango drive each year which is really well supported
  • We hosted a yummy and nutritious wood fire pizza evening.
  • Out students have a lot of fun when we hold a school disco (evening and lunch time), silly sock day, crazy hair day, five cent collection drive.
