Advocacy Ideas

The Parents' Jury encourages all children to perform at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity every day, but how activity friendly is your community?

Put your neighbourhood to the test with The Parents Jury's Active Community Checklist to rate the active transport and recreation facilities in your area.

If the checklist highlights areas for improvement, become a Parent Champion and advocate for change in your community:

Write to your mayor and local council to point out the areas that you think need improvement, or new public facilities that will benefit the residents' physical activity options. Download a letter template here (Microsoft Word document).

Write to your child's school with suggestions for more physical activity options, such as starting a walking school bus and installing bike racks to promote more cycling. Download a letter template here (Microsoft Word document).
